    What markup is used in Rails log files?

    I'm using InstantRails, as described in the Patrick Lenz book (which
    is very good, BTW). He shows Rails' log files with underlining, boldface,
    etc. I can only see the raw markup language, for example,

    #[4;35;1mSQL (0.000000)#[0m #[0mROLLBACK#[0m

    What markup language is this, and what Windows program should I use
    to view it? (In Lenz's book, it's apparently in a bash window).

    Thanks,
    Dave

    That should be ANSI. You should be able to turn it off in the Rails::Initializer.run do |config| block inside config/environment.rb:
    config.active_record.colorize_logging = false

    More options at http://glu.ttono.us/articles/2006/05...he-cheat-sheet

    I'm not sure how you can get ANSI support in windows consoles but wikipedia has some info under the support heading.

    Re: config.active_record.colorize_logging = false

    That looked promising, but didn't work. I did stop and restart the servers;
    I also tried stopping and restarting InstantRails.

    I also added the same line to development.rb (config was defined there), but
    that didn't work either.

    Well, this isn't exactly critical. Thanks for the advice.
