Problem getting webrick or mongrel to work on my server

I've been following through the book for the last couple of days (great book by the way).

I've installed everything fine on my localhost. I've installed Ruby, gems and rails on my linux (centos 4.5) box with no problems.

I've installed mongrel, which didn't seem to throw up any errors, but when I run:

    Code:
    mongrel_rails start -e production
    I get

    Code:
** Starting Mongrel listening at 0.0.0.0:3000
** Starting Rails with production environment...
    ** Rails loaded.
** Loading any Rails specific GemPlugins
** Signals ready. TERM => stop. USR2 => restart. INT => stop (no restart).
** Rails signals registered. HUP => reload (without restart). It might not work well.
    ** Mongrel available at 0.0.0.0:3000
    ** Use CTRL-C to stop.
Which I would assume meant everything should be working fine. But when I try to access my site at http://mysite.com:3000 the connection just times out.

    Any suggestions?
    hmm...

I could be wrong, I'm no where near an export on Apache, but double check the config file for the localhost address. I see this line:

** Starting Mongrel listening at 0.0.0.0:3000

Local host is usually defined as 127.0.0.1, not 0.0.0.0. That could be your problem.

I think in the Apache httpd? config file, you can enter what address you want local host to be on.

    Someplace to start at least.

    Hmmm... That's strange.
In this application, http://0.0.0.0:3000 should be the same as http://localhost:3000

Have you tried localhost:3000 instead of mysite:3000

    Off Topic:

    * I haven't used Rails in production yet. When I began the book, I used mongrel with instant rails on Windows/InstantRails. Now I'm going through the book again but using Ubuntu 7.4 which performs much better but uses WeBrick.

Did you get it working? If you are just testing on your local machine, why not use Webrick? It normally just works.

On the deployment side I found LiteSpeed's free server to be super easy to setup (like 5 minutes), and you upgrade to the latest version by pushing a single button. Very hassle free.
