    Website Rating Software

Hey all, i'm new to this forum and was recommended countless times from other forums i use.

I have a question. I'm interested in developing a website that allows consumers to rate products and services. Something along the lines of either a 1-10 score rating, or possible a thumbs up/down type system. I also want it to be possible for the consumer to write a review if required.

I'm ok at basic HTML and hand coding, but haven't got a clue where to start on this one. Are there any purpose built systems out there already pre-done to cope with this? I've looked at a few CMS systems but all require huge amounts of tweating, and have looked at Pligg but its still on a beta version so very few templates are available.

Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi, you might want to look for canned scripts that do this over at www.krugle.com (under projects) or on www.hotscripts.com

Google might also turn up a few. Just make sure that the server-side language and database system that are used by the script you choose are supported by your hosting provider.

Thanks Dan, i've been having a think and something similar to the way www.lovefilm.com is is what i want, i.e. you can just hover over the star rating to post your review etc, anyone seen something similar?

PS - I know i'm new but i'm not promoting love film (hate it when newbies post urls within a few posts!), they are uk based for uk and europe so not applicable to most here anyway!

You're citing it as an example, so don't worry about it. I know Paul O'B and cpradio posted a couple articles on www.search-this.com recently about star matrixes. You might want to look into them though (cpradio's PHP script requires PHP 5 to use).

Have you thought about asking lovefilm.com? If you aren't competing with them maybe they'd tell you what they use.
