Talking Bebo to send messages into space

You must have heard the news about now. Bebo is to send 500 messages out into space by radio to a far distant planet which may hold life or not. Sounds like this should be in the meaningless milestones.

The signal will take 20.5 years to reach this far distant planet and if their is life on that planet it will take another 20.5 years to reach us back, thats if they can translate the messages.

Actually, I haven't heard. Which system is this that they're sending the messages to?

Ok this snip was taken from vnunet.com:

The information will be beamed 120 trillion miles into space to Gliese 581C, considered to be the nearest planet that could potentially contain life similar to our own.
You can send a message, just visit bebo and follow the instructions.

Interesting idea, though I am slightly worried by what the users of Bebo (mostly UK teenagers) will send out into space

yea, but they do get vetted first, so only 500 will be sent (decent and sensible ones).

Yeah, and NASA has been sending messages to space for years. But do we ever stop to think that what if the aliens (life) that receives the message is a group of BIG, BAD Biker aliens and now they've just found a planet to bully that they didn't even know existed. Thank you NASA and Bebo! LOL

True, plus what about TV and Radio. Since they began transmitting radio waves have been beamed into space. Aliens should have received these transmissions by now, surely

Oh, that little rock. There's nothing there, and if it was, it'd probably have the brain capacity of a goldfish (which is about 3 seconds).

I heard goldfish had longer memories than 3 seconds.

Yeah, Pity if these radio waves hit the big bad and the ugly of the space aliens...

20.6 years from now aliens land (it only takes them .1 year to travel that far yuh know) and demand to speak to bebo

Thats just it, they are expecting humanoids living on that planet, but in reality there could be just insects, animals, etc...

I think, and someone has mentioned this, it's all a publicity stunt to get Bebo and the celebs noticed.
