Using wordpress from a subdirectory?

I've got a project that will require wordpress be more of a password protected area for certain members only to view.
I'm having difficulty trying to figure out how I would install wordpress into say a subfolder (/members) and still have a login on my homepage for the members (which is a directory above the actual blog).

Any ideas?


*also the people logging in would only be subscribers able to view the blog not edit*

I checked out that link that might start me on the right path.
The trick is the main site is much larger than just the wordpress section is; the main site is all stand alone .php files and such.

None of the pages that are stand alone need to show anything but a login box for people to get to the wordpress (members) blog..

I think simply im trying to pass the username and password variables straight into wordpress from my standalone homepage. Wordpress is just located in a subdirectory.
