Search engine script for larger site

Does anyone have any experience with internal search engine scripts for larger sites? (50,000+ pages, millions of words of text)? If so, I would really like to hear some recommendations. I am currently using Site Search Pro, and I'm very unhappy with it.

Btw, I, along with every other webmaster on the planet, already knows about hotscripts.com, so posting that link as a response isn't of any help. I'm looking for specific feedback.

Have you had a look at Lucene (by Apache).
I don't do anything in this area I'm afraid, but I've heard good things about that.
