Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any good free communities someone could run, something like excite clubs.
I'm an active member of a certain excite club but there are signs of excite putting an end to all clubs, so we'd like to find a new "home". What we're looking for is something which can basically have a member-only discussion area and allow the uploading of pictures.
If anyone knows of anything like this (besides free messages boards like coolboard or ezboard), please let me know.
Thanks,
John.

As for something you can run yourself I don't know but Yahoo offers clubs and Egroups offers storage and email lists. Since the two are merging you can create a pretty complete solution.

I recommend Yahoo Clubs - it's quite easy to use (but a little ugly) and is powerful.
Great stuff.

Is eCircles too simplistic for your needs? Or are you looking for more of a portal type of community? At eCircles you can download photos/music and have private discussions online or via email...

I'll recommend those to the board moderator. Thanks. It's kind of hard to describe exactly what I want, I guess you have to be a member of an excite club to know.
The club does have a message board, with different folders and subfolders created for discussions, and a section for people to upload and look at photos in albums (as well as a file storage space, but we kind of know that's out of the question). I think those who run the board are looking for a one-stop kind of thing. Ecircles looks like a good choice to me, so I'll recommend it.
Thanks guys.
