How to use PHP in wordpress blogs?

I'm looking for a way to have dynamic content from a database in my blog.
Is this possible? And are there any plugins required? I can't imagine that all wordpress posts are static...

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

If you'd like to execute php code within your posts, take a look at php exec plugin
