    CSS --> margin-top

    Take a look at the following part of an external stylesheet:

    Code:
    td.content {
    color: #000000;
    text-align: left;
    margin-top: 0;
    font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-size: 10px;
    }
    I must be doing something wrong, but the text in the cell is not positioned at the top, it is aligned into the middle of the box -- vertically speaking of course.

    Can you spot the mistake?

    In theory, the vertical-align property should do the trick. Unfortunately, it's not that well supported yet, I think. :-(

    margin or padding

    I am not a table maven, but I would think if you want text positioned within a cell, then you would use padding-top. If you had the text within a paragraph then you could position the paragraph with margin.
