Detecting remote PC specs (CPU, Memory, etc)

Is anyone aware of a way to detect the specs of a PC browsing a web-page - CPU, memory, etc? I am looking for a way to provide an online 'Is your PC suitable' test so that users can only proceed with a download if their PC meets the minimum specs.

So you could set a setTimeout with a complicated task, and measure the total time it takes and compare it with the real time taken.

    Like I said, long winded
