The book says to change to the shovell directory and type in
rails script/server and it will boot WEBrick
    What I get is :
    ./script/../config/boot.rb:29: undefined method 'gem' for main:Object <NoMethodError> from script/server:2

    Hi,

the 'gem' command was introduced in a more recent RubyGems version than what might be installed on your system. Try to run:

    Code:
    gem update --system
to update your installed copy. (You might have to use 'sudo' to execute the command as root.)

    Best,
    Patrick

Patrick, when I try to run the gem update command in a [Windows] terminal window I get:
    "Updating RubyGems...
ERROR: While executing gem ... (socket error)
getaddressinfo no address assocaitaed with hostname"

Any ideas what the problem might be?

    Thanks

Is the machine you're running this on properly connected to the Internet? This command will try to connect to the RubyForge servers to download the newest version.

    Best,
    Patrick

Patrick will you release any other type of docs on rails? I like very much your introductory book and i would like to see some more advanced material on rails written by you

My apologies - a quick reboot of the system took care of the problem. I realize I should have done that PRIOR to posting my (imagined) problem.

    You may beat me now!

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your kind words.

I don't have anything concrete in the works right now, but one never knows

No beating necessary. I'm glad it worked out.
