    Database Drive Website Chapter 3

Maybe I'm missing something here but I can't get the the concept!!!

I've worked through Welcome 1 to Welcome 3 creating a welcome3.html file and a welcome3.php file. When I open html it shows on webpage, I can enter a name and click go but that's it. If I try to open the .php file it opens in dreamweaver.

I have saved the html and the php file in a directory called c:\inetpub\wwwroot\

I think it might be something to do with browsing servers on the host or my own machine cos I'm a bit lost here too.

I'm a bit new to all this.

    Thanks

Just assuming that you're using Firefox and Apache, the default application for .html files is Firefox and the default application for .php files is Dreamweaver. In further chapters, if you want to open a .php file in your browser, open your browser and go to: http://localhost/filename
This way, you force your browser to open the .php file instead of dreamweaver. When working through the book I just made an index with links to all the files for the book so I could browse to http://localhost/index.html and click on the necessary link from there. Hope this helps! It's a great book and I'm about two chapters ahead!

    Thanks

Thank you for explaining this for me. Just one other point.

If I write 'http://localhost/welcome3.php' into the browser I get:

Welcome to our Web site, !

    Should I not be getting:

Welcome to our Web site, Kevin Yank!

    I'm using ie7 and IIS

Many thanks especially if you can answer this one!
