Right now I am tring to install Apahce on Red Hat Linix 7.2. I do everything it says to do and then it says to type this command in the terminal window:

PREFIX/bin/apachectl start

Then I get this error:

fopen: No such file or directory
http: could not open error log file PREFIX/PREFIX/logs/error_log.
PREFIX/bin/apachectl start: http could not be started

Does anyone know what is going on?? Thanks!!!

Sounds like you forgot to create the logs directory at "PREFIX/PREFIX/logs/". The directory needs to exist before Apache will start. Apache will create the log files, but not the directories.

Are there any other directories that I need to create other than that one? Thanks!

Well just the document root for the server and any virtual hosts .

I did that but now I just get this error when I run PREFIX/bin/apachectl start:

PREFIX/bin/apachectl start: http could not be started

Any ideas? Thanks for you help ahead of time.

Check the main Apache error log. Those kinds of errors are normally logged there. You could also try apachectl configtest.
