Got a link to WP-Syntax? I'm running 2.3.1 on my test installation (that I use for creating custom themes). I can check to see if it's compatible or not (though not tonight or tomorrow - will have to wait until Sunday).

I use many plugins. Actually it all depends on the type of the blog and what exactly you want to do achieve with these plugins. Like if you have more of pictures to deal with nextgen is good. For seo pupose all-in-one seo is good. To prevent spam akismet is good.... and so on.

I'm finally getting into WordPress and am looking at all the available plug-ins. This is awesome reference info!!

I saw a plugin called TubePress. Is that plugin really required to import youtube videos??

No. You can turn off the WISIWYG editor and just insert the code directly into your WordPress post or page.

I've split my list into blog and CMS plugins to make it easier. I've tried not to repeat ones I could see (although I'm sure I have!).

    Blogging:
Custom Query String - Allows you to change how many posts are on internal pages compared to the default.
AJAX Edit Comments - Allows your commentators to edit their comments for X minutes after they've submitted.
What Others Are Saying - lets you display the latest post from sites in your blog roll

    CMS:
Login Anywhere - Allows you to display the WP admin login on the front of the site (useful for sites that have multiple accounts or want to control access to posts).
Page Restriction - Allows you to restrict page access to only those who are logged in, such as subscriber based content.
Custom Title Attributes - allows you to change the title attribute for page links
Page Link manager - easily control whether a page is displayed in the wp_list_pages list/menu
Shift This Page Plugin - easily change the order of your pages

    General Plugins
Admin Theme Preview - let's you, as admin, see a different theme. Handy when upgrading the site design.
    Admin Drop Down Menus
Bad Behaviour - meant to block those nasty bandwidth eating bots.
Link Indication - displays mini icons after various links to indicate what the link is.
    Page update notification
    Search Everything

As the post warning says - Warning! You are replying to a thread which is more than 7 months old. Please consider creating a new thread instead. - some of the plugins mentioned previously have been overtaken/superseded.

Since most of my WordPress installations are CMS for clients, rather than blogs - here's a couple to look out for:

cforms II - possibly the most comprehensive form creation/management plugin out there. Amazing built-in help too.
get custom fields - great for using the extensibility that custom fields offers
dasher - improves the dashboard if you are designing sites for clients
BM Custom Login - customize the appearance of your login page
Flexible Upload - image uploading options - resize/watermark
MyPageOrder - drag and drop page ordering
RoleManager - allows you to control what users see and do
wp-Table - for those rare times when you need to insert tabular data
WP-Super-Cache - extends the usefulness of the original WP-Cache

And I couldn't forget probably the most important plugin that I use for my own site - specifically for Photoblogs - YABP

Yeah, I know (about the thread being old). I just wish I had the ability to actually EDIT it like I've been wanting to.

Probably premature for me to say this since I'm testing out 2 of them, but the
3 below I think are the minimum must-have:

    WordPress Automatic Upgrade

    BackupWordPress

    Super Cache

    Just thought I'd share those.

Sitemap, Backup, Archiving always although various others for specific purposes.

My old seo plugin doesn't work with new version of WordPress. Does anyone have a suggestion?

No, I think it was part of a package I bought some time ago. I can buy an update but would just as soon not.

Ah. Well that's kind of a bummer. Have you tried the All In One SEO Pack by any chance? (It's a freebie.) The link to it is somewhere in this thread.

    seo plugin

Since I last posted in this thread (quite a while ago now) the list of plugins I use has changed some. I have started using the "all in one SEO pack" plugin, - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...-one-seo-pack/ - "those were the days" and "my category order"

    stats

I forgot to mention another I've started using - the "WordPress.com Stats" plugin. It requires having an Akismet API key, which was no problem as I have one for Akismet. I had to do a small hack to my theme's footer.php file. And it's a bit of a pain because instead of just showing the info in the admin panels you have to login to wordpress first, but it shows Visits, Referrers, Top Posts, Search Engine Terms, and Clicks; by Days, Weeks, and Months.

I use http://www.tagenie.com - It automates bookmarking process. Instead of filling forms for each bookmaring site, just add Tagenie and you are done.

Sorry about that, for some reason it wouldn't let me link it up?
