    mysql problem, please help!!

    Hi there,
My mySql has been working fine for many months, however, yesterday I tried to restart the mySql server for some reason.....
Today, when I tried to use phpMyadmin I just get
    Acess Denied: 'root@localhost' (Password:No)

even if I just try to run mysql on the linux machine I get Access denied.....I can run it using mysql --user=root@localhost, but I cant do anything after that........

So I tried restarting with many different options, but no matter what I do it will not work.........

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
    thanks....

That message indicates that you are not telling mysql to prompt you for a password (-p parameter). Do you really not have a password for your root user???
