Pear Newbie - Install Problems

I am running PHP 4.3.11 on a Win XP and ran the pear.bat.

I think I installed it correctly, but I am not sure. I believe the version is 1.3.5.

The installation took place on c:\php\php4\PEAR\PEAR

I set my path environmental variable to c:\php\php4\PEAR\PEAR

In my PHP.ini INCLUDE section, I added c:\php\php4\PEAR\PEAR

Stop and restart Apache.

Now how do I know if this is installed correctly or is running? Also, at the command line prompt, I typed PEAR and I got this....

Warning: array_shift(): The argument should be an array in pearcmd.php on line 54
Console_Getopt: Could not read cmd args (register_argc_argv=Off?)
Commands: (listing of them after this)

According to what I have read, I changed the register-argc-argv=ON but still same error when I try to run any commands.

I appreciate any assistance.

Thanks for the response. I was basically going from the SITEPOINTS book - THE PHP ANTHOLOGY VOL. 1 and I kept stumbling.

After going over your suggested link, I went from scratch again and was able to make progress. I guess being the newbie on this, I just didnt understand the language quite clearly but after some experimentation, I was successful in making progress.
