    validation error

I had a page which validated fine before I added the text, in the text I have used what i thought was valid markup but the validator says otherwise, can any one shed any light on this.

This is the error which repeats many times for the start of each paragraph

Line 92 column 15: document type does not allow element "p" here; missing one of "object", "applet", "map", "iframe", "button", "ins", "del" start-tag.

    <p class="blue"><strong> <u> text follows here

    and this is my declaration

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

If anyone has any ideas I would like to know where I am going wrong, the only thing I have changed with this site is the declaration as this is my 1st pure css site with no tables.

    Cheers

Why do you have empty paragraphs? You should not use paragraphs to add extra spacing. Use CSS and classes instead.

    You're missing a </p> end tag on line 85.

You should check the page in Firefox 2. The content doesn't appear at all.

Also, on the web, it's not a good idea to underline any text that is not a link.

    Kravvitz,

Thanks for your advice, the main problem was the emtpy paragraphs which I was useing to add bigger spaces between the paragraphs, i then added a class which gave me some padding to the top and bottom removed all my <p>&nbsp</p> bits gave it a test and it validated 1st time which amazed me.

ok the underlined headings bits were what the people I am doing the site for wanted as this was how it was on a word document they gave me with the content, the fix agreed for this was to make the text slighlty bigger and remove the underline which now looks much better.

Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction all is now fine.

    Regards

    Ian
