I have a website hosted by Network Solutions, and they have given me an easy way to have a wordpress blog and it is even under a subdirectory of my website, but it isnt hosted on my site.
Does anyone know of a blog that can be hosted directly on my site?

I agree, Wordpress is a good alternative if you have PHP and MySQL support in your hosting package.
About the software they provide, try talking to their customer support. It might be that it needs to be configured by you first to set passwords, themes, whatever.

Yeah...I think about anybody will recommend WORDPRESS to you. It is definately the most easiest and expansive blogging software out there. I used WORDPRESS for one of my static HTML sites and my site gained alot of PR rank and popularity through it.
check with your hosting providers, usually the have one click blog installer, and wordpress is quite popular, they might include it somewhere in your control panel.
On your cPanel main page there should be an icon for Fantasico. Once the page comes up select WordPress from the install applications menu on the left side.
