What do you think are the top blogging networks right now (ie. 9 rules)? Go ahead and list them in order if you know of more than one.

If you mean blog sites like blogger.

    Blogger.
    Wordpress.
Those 2 are the top in my mind. Maybe not that order either.

Blogsome and blogcities are the other networks that comes to mind. There's quite a bit out there actually. There's also "modified" blog networks like Xanga and LiveJournal.

I don't think I'd really include those together... they're not the same type of network. 9Rules is a loose collection of blogs created by their individual authors--sort of like a closed social network for the owners of quality blogs. Their goal, as understand it, is to create quality content and share readers and ideas. While b5media (and Weblogs, Inc., Gawker, etc.) are all businesses that create blogs specifically for the network for the purpose of making money.

I agree, with the exception that b5 does allow outside blogs in. Although I think they would rather not go in that route, they do allow it for what they consider a quality blog.

9rules definitely isn't a blog network in the same fashion as the other ones mentioned here. Like Bleys pointed out, 9rules is really just a content aggregation service, indexing the posts made by blogs that are accepted into their program, service, network or whatever you wish to call it. Additionally, they've also opened up their community with the latest version, so it's more of a social network showcasing the content of a selected amount of their members.

I'm fond of this model, and I've actually developed a similar feature for a blogging community that I'm running (see my signature) - It's a bit different from 9rules in the sense that we are more open, and the main focus is not to aggregate the "best content on the web", but rather to give our members a venue for promoting their blogs to their fellow community members.

As for favourite blog networks, I don't really have one. I'm completely indifferent to which networks blogs belong to, as long as I find the blogs interesting.
