    Easy to understand WP tutorials ??

    Reading quite a few of the these posts, I want to get a bit more proficient with Wordpress and possibly one other CMS - maybe Etomite (? always forget the name- but find it easily enough via google

    In your expert opinions is there a good, easy to understand (that's the important one) tutorial on how to customise WP. I managed to skin WP on an underutilised site of mine, more by sheer luck than by design

    I know of the tuts at the official WP site, but maybe someone knows of one that's much easier to follow....

    thanks !

    What do you mean by customize, integrate it into a design, change the functionality or both?

    Yes sorry - both :-)

    Here's where I have Joomla installed- as you can see I haven't even touched it :-) looks way too complicated. I just don't have the time to get down and dirty with the book I purchased on how to 'skin' it. I'd rather go the WP route for now.

    and this is the WP I skinned . Only problem if I go back to work on it now, I wouldn't remember how I got that far <lol>

    So is that dancing girl you Nadia?

    The best way to play with WP is to load a theme then play with all of the "theme editor" files in the "Presentation" category. It won't take an expert like you long to suss out how it works.

    that's what I did with the page I linked to. but it was frustratingly slow I guess once I get back to the layout and the files, it may all come back

    It seems complex at first but the more you do it, the easier it is and faster you will get!

    I am in the same boat. I have no problem altering an existing theme but I have not had the time to figure out how to do it from scratch. The docs at wordpress are just too much, not difficult but just a bit overwhelming. I get the "where do I start" panic whenever I start getting into it. I will check the link above, maybe it will get me over the hump. Thanks

    I start listed down all the files I need to modify before altering the theme from scratch, in the case that anything gone missing.

    i believe she is asking how to best understand wordpress. when she finally understands how the underlying structure works, she can then become more proficient at it.

    if so, here are some sites and tutorials that will help you get started;

    The first link I gave you will point you to other links and resources. I highly recommend subscribing to Lorelle's blog for all things WP

    Definitely second Lorelle's blog *claps*

    A small heads up: I have noticed that not all themes are just as easy as one another to customize. I reckon if I had of known that initially, that would have helped with the frustration experienced in attempting to customize the themes selected. Some are much harder/less intuitive than others. although not altogether what your after, but I am happy I got a hold of the WordPress 2 (VQSG) book. A great good basics tool (for me anyways). I am aware that you are light years ahead of me in terms of technical understanding and proficiency, but it's often nice to know that the small things are covered.
