Write really cool stuff that people want to read, build up a "huge" following, and get sponsorship and/or advertising to pay you while you sit on the beach and think things up!

A classic example of someone who's coining it, while doing nothing but writing crap that people seem to be very interested in, was in last week's SitePoint Tribune. Brendon was talking about this guy called ShoeMoney. Went to his site, and I don't think he has a real job, but he's making lots of doe!

Yep, the first step is actually writing content that people want to read. This will generate traffic as well as links to your site which will help you reach readers through search engines. Once you begin to have steady traffic because of good content you can do a number of things:

    - direct ad sales (sponsors)
    - text link ad services
    - contextual advertising
    - affiliate programs
    - etc.

Each site will respond differently to each type of monetization method so it may take some experimentation to determine what works best. But the bottom line is, without content that drives traffic to your site it won't matter which methods you use, you won't make much or any money.

Now there's a neat way to get going... first time I hear about PayPerPost. $700 isn't too shabby... how long did it take you to get to $700 p/m?

That PayPerPost revenue doesn't sound too bad at all.

How much choice do you have about what you blog about? What sort of topics do they give you to pick from?

I've been with them since February, I believe. You have a good selection of topics that companies cover. It just depends on the advertisers. It is good money and the higher a Page Rank your blog has, the better the opportunities...I'm talking ones worth anywhere from $100 up to $1000.

It's free and you can sign up through my blog post where I talk about it in more detail. I also have a screenie of my earnings. http://small-biz-blog.net/2007/03/ma...-blogging.html

    Use a combination of tools

Match the tags of your blog post to the search terms in Amazon's catalogue. Amazon ECS is fun to play with plus can add lots of content to your site from product descriptions and reviews. Another quite effective little extra is a button on the bottom of the page to your host. DiscountASP for example pays up to $40 per referral.

    There are so many ways..

    As others mentioned:

    1. You can use your blog to drive traffic to your main site where you make the sale.

The idea here is that blogs get picked up by the search engines much quicker. They seem to favor blogs because generally they have real content.

So keep it clean, give good info and of course provide a link to your affiliates or main sales site.

Note there are professional bloggers out there that make a living from blogging. If you have good writing skill it's a plus.

Apart from putting different low paying adsense units in your blog, I can tell you of a new ad publisher which is paying close to 10-15 cents per click. Its known as http://www.widgetbucks.com/.
Mainly money making from blog stands on the ground of proper link building, good SEO optimised posts, and ultimately money comes your way by ads or affiliate programs, unless you are selling your own unique niche product in your blog.
First and foremost proper SEO optimisation of blog is required, and the process needs lot to research. Keep studying forums and making more knowledge. People do make more than 100$ / day from blogs.

    Once you are able to generate large traffic to your blog, ordinary adsense revenue is can be sufficient, but there are other ways you can make money from your blog;

-affilaite programs, affiliate seeking.com, has current affiliate programs
    -payperpost
    -review of products (e.g reviewme.com)
-sell your own products... and so on

You can also capture the emails of readers and send them offers.

If you target your blog to a certain niche you can make more money with a few affiliate programs than you can with adsense ads.
