I've come accross a nice Flash effect and was wondering if it could be acheived with Javascript, or if something similar already existed:

Exactly like that no.

You can use some JavaScript effects to get something like that (moo.fx, scriptaculous, etc.), but the whole blind-transition effect wouldn't be easy.
