    Surprised I got stuck this early!

    Terminal noob.

    Bought the book, starting installation, trying to set the path as per page 23.
    On OS X 10.4.8.
    It fails at this point!

    Code:
    [iMac-G5:~/Desktop/build] pschena% $ echo 'export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:$PATH"' >> ~/.profile
    tcsh: $: Command not found.
    [iMac-G5:~/Desktop/build] pschena%
    Any ideas?

    You don't have to type the $. The $ is in the book to indicate that you're on the command line.

    So if the book says this:

    Code:
    $ echo 'export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:$PATH"' >> ~/.profile
    You should type this in the terminal:

    Code:
    echo 'export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:$PATH"' >> ~/.profile
