I am in the beginning stages of developing a niche related blog (spiritual theme), but I still have yet to release my real name on the site. It's a fully developed site, but only has 4 entries thus far. But who I am is really not the focus of my blog, it is what I am writing about that I want to shift the focus to, which is why I haven't put my real name on the site.

I don't mind expressing opinions and values, but never discuss family or friends.

On a related note. There are many blogs popping up nowadays which are just like news sites essentially. Meaning, they just list (in a news type way) blog posts from other blogs. My question is: If you don't give your identity would the viewer think it was just one of these? Or, potentially worse one of those black hat sites which just cram keywords into their blog and it has no other purpose.

I use my name and picture...

Unless you aren't on your own domain (e.g. joe.blogger.com) then it doesn't matter if you aren't explicitly saying your name - you know someone who really wants to can find out your name. If you or me are ever in a place (political office, CEO, etc...) where someone would want to know this info, I'm sure they could find it. When enough people are searching, someone is bound to stumble across something - or your buddy betrays you.

I try not to talk or identify my family and friends full names on the blog. I do tread lightly (aka...half politically correct) on controversial issues, but I think discussing these topics is half of the point of my blog. I like to tell people what I think and how I see things, not what I ate/wear/play/did...

    Just my 0.02,
    Steven

I dont think I need to be personal with the kind of blog I have. It is nice to be a little personal like your pictures and a brief description. But I dont think I need to or afford to describe my day on my blog

I had a little bit of trouble with this at first, also.

My web site is also of a spiritual nature, but still most things I write is personalized. I had trouble deciding at first how much detail I should go nto in my blog posts. But finally I’m getting used to it.

Now, even though it’s a spiritual site, I post quite a bit about my own life, but it’s categorized appropriately so people who don’t want to read it can just skip those categories. I’m lucky that it is not business-related whatsoever, so it really doesn’t matter what I write. I also don’t care if people find what I write; if they don’t like it then that’s too bad.

My blog’s become somewhat of an outlet for venting, or just talking about interesting things that’ve happened to me. Like the time the other day when the police invaded my road the other day and had to negotiate with a guy barricaded in an apartment down the street….had to tell someone, so, all my friends online plus my blog gets to hear about it.

Or often I’ll just post about it, and to keep from having to retype it I’ll just IM someone with a link, lol.

Edit: I don't think I'd be able to write as personally as hawk though...I've read her blog and....nope I couldn't go there.

I feel your pain. I had surgery a couple years ago and I had to lay on my side at all times. Surgery sucks. I hope you feel better

    personal

I don't go into any nitty-gritty, but I guess it reflects my personality. ie. the categories "Wildflowers", "Trees and Shrubs" reveal my naturalist (not naturist) interests, "Scripting" my love of web-dev, and "AFC", "Politics" where I semi-guardedly vent my frustration with the "State". And of course the catch-all "Uncategorized" category for rambling.

I have a personal blog site. Why you make a conscious decision for your personal blog. It just simple, you can express and write article about what your feel about, personal opinion about a specific category or stuff that makes you interested such as poem and a lot more. You may add personal information and add picture
