Good News for Web Publishers & Copywriters

This forum is great news for SitePoint members!

Nicky & Sarah -- You have done a wonderful job here and something that I have longed to see for a long time. Thanks!!

I am proud to author the first post here!

My good news comes from CopyScape.

Copyscape has added a premium service where now you can upload your offline copy to check it for integrity (if you're a copywriter writing copy) or plageurism (if you're a web publisher who is purchasing copy). This premium upload is only $.05 per search and you can purchase as many as you desire at a time. They accept both debit cards and credit cards and their checkout is easy to use.

I totally agree Shyflower. Too long has web copywriting been ignored for the sake of web design. But no more ! Web copywriting is just as integral part to an online presence as web design is.

Thank you Linda for this info, I am gathering all this information for my Big Bang way in the future. Copy is certainly very important and all to often ignored. It is a specialized field just like design, like coding, a part of the whole.

    Nice link Linda.

I used it to check out webbuild.co.nz and guess what? Some "person" in California copied a couple of my pages. I contacted the B*****d via his web site, asking very nicely why he had chosen my copy for his site.

    His reply:
"Liked the layout and what it said was inline with what I do."

Not much I can do as I haven't worried about copyright (who'd want to copy stuff off a site ranked last on Google anyway?).

Just asked him to change a few more words.

Very nice tool mate. Well done.

If you have proof of copyright infringement (i.e. - plagiarism) you can contact his web host and let them know. You can also file a DMCA report with the Search engines, but usually when you notify the web host, you'll see that the infringing site is gone in a day or two.

If your site is low ranked, part of the reason could be that you are getting the penalty for duplicate content. It's alway a good thing, IMO to put a copy pirate on the gangplank.

That's really good to know Shyflower. I've taken the less confrontational road of asking him to make significant changes to the copied pages. He has agreed. I just need to monitor them now.

(btw, my site doesn't rank quite as badly as I may have indicated )

fisherboy: You should offer to rewrite his content for a significant price (5x your hourly rate for whatever it is you do).

    Good idea Bleys.
I'm not sure how much trust I could put in him for getting payment. How do you trust someone who steals your content, including your prices?

As a side issue, my prices are in New Zealand Dollars, his are in US Dollars. This makes him 40% dearer than me!
