Are mouseover pop-ups annoying?

I've gotten polarized reactions to mouseover pop-up boxes on a site of mine:

It's not a professional site, just a personal hobby page. Still, I am curious if the majority of visitors find them annoying.

Hi,

I don't think the pop-ups are annoying though they might be better appearing beside the cursor rather than below it as at the moment it blocks the lower menu items.
Having said that I don't think you need the pop-ups as the menu items are pretty self-explanatory.

In conclusion I'd say get rid of them!
