    Forum Width- Fixed Vs Fluid

    Hey guys,

Just wondering what the general feeling is with vB forum width... Fixed width or fluid width?

I have just customised a new skin for my forum site (www.ChessForums.org) and was thinking of trying to switch it to a fluid width, but wondered if there is a majority preferring it as opposed to the fixed width?

    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

Part of me does prefer a fluid width, but I visit/have visited both. Doesn't bother me.

I prefer Fixed, On 1280 v 1024 pixels, it gets annoying reading imo.

You'll probably find a significant number of your members who prefer one over the other ... so my suggestion is to do both a fixed and a fluid version if you can - and let the users select which they want to use.

I prefer fluid for forums... but, it's not something that would turn me off from a site. If your site is more than a forum, you should try to make your forum match the design of the rest of the site.

For me its on a case-by-case basis. I've seen some forums where fluid looks better and I've seen some where fixed looks better.

The design is the one "deciding". If I have an intricate header or something like that, I cannot get away with a fluid design. I kinda like the fixed designs since they look at the size they were created for. On my 1200 wide monitor I see a site wider than on the 1000 monitor I use at work. And some fluid designs on a big monitors just look bad. Too stretched and deformed ... That's why most of the time I go with a fixed design. Then I really have freedom to adorn it as I wish

I prefer fluid but this seems to be the best recommendation that I've read:
