    Social Networking Server space

How much server space is needed for a new social networking site? Also, how do I calculate server space per user?

For a brand new social networking website - just a shared account will do. That will handle you until you grow and reach the point that you need a dedicated provider. There's no sense in going out and getting a dedicated server and wasting money.

As to calculating out the exact usage, you can perhaps come up with a equation or very vague idea, but depending upon what you allow, this can quickly become inaccurate. For example, some people may customize their look with lots of images or upload a bunch of photos while others may just fill out the basics. I'd say just give yourself a little bit of room, but keep in mind you can upgrade as needed.

is each users assigned a 10MB, then 1000 users will be 10GB.
    10k users to 100GB.

on shared hosting, as i known at hostgator, 12000-15000 pageview a month is ok, dont get over it, as the usage will over the permited cpu usage. upgrade to dedicated once ready. usually provider will do the upgrade for you, and you just need to change the NS on domain control panel.

12000-15000 page views per months is low, and unless the script is very CPU intensive, quite a bit more can be used. I know I do have more monthly page views than that on Hostgator's shared hosting.
