Thanks,
I never realised quite so many people still used 800x600, i thought 1024x768 was the minimum people used these days.
agree with:
- With a fixed-width layout the table will reflow if you change the text size
I am using 1024 X 768 pixels with 32 bit. But i sometimes experience my screen flashing. Also I wanted to know about dpi and screen refresh and how it affects. My screen refresh is set to 60 Hertz and dpi is set to 96 dpi
Great post, very good info on screen resolutions

Great article validating that designers should definitely consider that many users still have screen resolution set at 800x600 when designing Web sites. Browser resolution statistics for the general public vary, however, all point to that fact that this is a crucial fundamental when designing.
I am using 1024 X 768 pixels this resolution is now used more .

Very nice thread mate. Personally, I think it's very tricky trying to design a website using fluid measurements typically because I can love how it looks one minute, an then resize the window only to ruin the aesthetics. I personally prefer to control the page width to about 720px centred and use fixed measurements from then on.

Useful thread.
I usually design for about 700px fixed width but then again I use EMs for font sizing, and I use a reasonable base font size (usually between 10px to 14px - larger for H1) so most people viewing my website are unlikely to want to resize the font unless they have issues with their eyesight, etc.
I'm not experienced with fluid/elastic/hybrid but I'll be getting into that I guess.
Nice post, some good info.
Strange but true, here in Taiwan, most people are still using IE6 and 800 600. I personally refuse to design for idiots, but thats just my philosophy.
great post, thanks for the info...
I'm laso having trouble on the screen resolution and the width of my site...
We should use flexible / liquid design, independent of the resolution of the visitors' screens -- em and % instead of pixels are a good start![]()
Interesting discussion about the resolutions. So I decided to look in my google analytics account and share stats from the last year:
1024x768 - 45.26%
1280x800 - 14.04%
1280x1024 - 13.78%
800x600 - 7.71%
1440x900 - 4.94%
1152x864 - 3.61%
Other resolutions - less than 3%.
