Wikipedia's CSS

I was studying Wikipedia's use of CSS. And I would like to ask the difference between using:

<style type="text/css" media="screen,projection">/*<![CDATA[*/ @import "/skins-1.5/monobook/main.css?59"; /*]]>*/</style>

Instead of this:

<link href="/skins-1.5/monobook/main.css?59" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

Older browsers that don't support CSS2 also don't understand the @import rule so by using it those browsers will get an unstyled page (which is probably better than them trying to interpret CSS that's too advanced for them).
