When is it best to link to more than one stylesheet?

Is it better to put everything on one external stylesheet for a large web site?

I have a web site with three sections, each of which is made up of many pages, and each section has its own background image for branding, but they share all other stuff in the stylesheet. That's when I link to more than one styelsheet: a main style sheet with common info, and a style sheet unique to each section to point to its own background image for branding.

Are there other reasons to link the same page to different stylesheets?

    Thanks!
    Steve

If you're not splitting your stylesheets up into different categories like layout, typography etc then I think the reason you've outlined would be the main one for using multiple stylesheets.

What's the benefit of separate stylesheets for layout and fonts? Would you do this if the style sheet is extremely long, and splitting it would make it quicker to find what you need?

    Thanks!

It's not something I've done myself but I do know some people like to work that way.
