    Options for creating an FAQ

    Hi,

I am considering different ways of presenting an FAQ.

    There are five categories:
    • Contributions
    • Eligibility
    • Miscellaneous
    • Transfers/Rollovers
    • Withdrawals
And for each, a few questions with answers.

    For example,
    Contributions

Can I continue to make contributions after I retire?

The date of your retirement is not a factor in making contributions as long as you meet all applicable requirements. Applicable requirements include earned income. Retirement income from WEA withdrawals are not considered earned income.

I want a web standards-friendly way of displaying the info, preferably all on one page. Maybe expanding DIVs, or showing the questions at left and having a div swap in at right?

Does anyone have good examples of this? I googled it, but I end up getting the FAQs themselves, not a how-to on making one.

    Thx,

Sounds like a definition list might be in order.

Since you're asking in the HTML/XHTML forum I assume you wonder about proper markup.

I concur with Dan on definition lists, that's how I've done these before. Hx on top of each of your 5 categories would do well too.

Yeah, use the headings for the various categories, then stick the lists underneath them. I'd also stick a single unordered list at the very top to act as an "FAQ Menu" with each list item containing a link to a particular category.

Uh, not markup so much as layout. I can move this to CSS if appropriate.

It would honestly depend on how the rest of your site is laid out, really.

Yes, definition lists do work nicely for FAQs.

I've done just that with the moo.fx accordian effect so when you click the dt, the dd opens up.

    I created something similar here
Not really a FAQ - but will give you the idea.. we had to fit everything onto one page and this worked beautifully.

I used the technique from Thierrys' site:
