    recordsets with sql functions

    what's the best way to convert :

    Code:
    update blah set x = fn_myfuntion(somevar)
    when its being used in a recordset, ala:
    Code:
    rs.fields("x") = ___________
    rs.update
    is it possible to still use a sql function like this?

    For the time being, i'm running a pre-query which is basically:

    Code:
    select fn_myfunction(somevar)
    mynewfield = rs(0)
    then i plug it in like this:

    Code:
    rs.fields("x") = mynewfield
    rs.update
    i'm trying to eliminate that pre-query. any ideas?
