I hate Unix. Hatred is most often the result of ignorance. Ok, so I am ignorant. Please teach me how to love Unix. I manage a website that is hosted on a Unix box. I would like to install a few web applications on this machine but having very little knowledge of Unix and Solaris makes my job a pain.

Currently, I'm having some trouble installing a graphics library and a log analizer program. I don't think Perl is even installed and I'm not sure about a C compiler. I have a Java application server installed which keeps shutting down.

I really need some help.

Anybody wants to be my mentor?

I'd appreciate any help or advice.

I would recommend going down to the local bookstore and grab a book. Or you can just search the net for help files on Unix.

I have spent alot of time trying to figure Linux/Unix, and all that I know is that I have along way to go.

It should have a C compiler. Try cc or gcc.

Use the 'find' command to find perl:
find / -name perl

Remember, just because when you type 'perl', it says command not found doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It simply means it is not in any of the paths defined in your $PATH environment variable.
