My site has lots of downloads, over 128 to be precise and it's only just beginnning, how could I create maybe a cgi file which calls the ID Number of the file the user wishes to download e.g 001 being a Desktop Theme?? This would hugely help my site, and save me sometime, as I could just call the same script each time.

    Thanks, Hell.

There are numerous solutions available to do this. I suggest that you look into a ASP/PHP and database solution as this would be scalable to the number of downloads whereas a PERL script will slow down as its text files grow.

Which solution you choose depends on what your host offers. You can find ASP solutions at www.aspin.com and you can find PHP solutions at www.php.net. For a PHP solution you can also read the PHP/MySQL series being published on Sitepoint right now. Its on issue 8 with at least 2 more to go.
