    Angry Looking for a Perl package to download

    Hi;
    I don't know anything about perl, and I need to install perl on my my computer ( Win XP Pro)

    I had tried couple of different perl packages ( vanilaper, strawberryper, camelperl and perl from activestate) and could not install Crypt::SSLeay, I believe I could not have compiler in my machine preperly.

    eventually I found the software that had ppm and compiler inbuilt, installed it and was able to install the module crypt-ssleay,
    I am trying to find it but after a day searching online I am not able to find such a software,

    I lost the software and my bookmark after my computer carshed. so I need to install the software again without hassle.

    anyone care to point me to the right place to download the software please?

    Thanks

    if you are running windows XP you should install activestate perl from the activestate website. Then from the DOS prompt you run PPM and simply use the install command:

    install Crypt-SSLeay

    all the documentation for perl and ppm comes included with activestate perl.

    Thank you for reply,

    I have already done so,
    after installing perl from activeStat, and installing openSSL for windows,
    tried to install the Crypt-ssleay, but get error, and I don't know what is wrong, here is the text from dos shell after an attempt to install the module:

    cpan> install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/Crypt-SSLeay.ppd
    CPAN: Storable loaded ok
    Going to read C:\Perl\cpan\Metadata
    Database was generated on Thu, 01 Feb 2007 10:27:59 GMT
    Running make for h/h//h/ht/http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/Crypt-SSLeay.ppd
    mkdir C:\Perl\cpan\sources\authors\id\h\h\h\ht\http:\: Invalid argument at C:/Perl/lib/CPAN.pm line 2341

    and on line 2341:
    File::Path::mkpath($aslocal_dir);

    to add, I also have downloaded a file called nmake from MS site,
    and put it in a folder in perl folder, and gave the address into the path as well, assuming that shoud work for the need of compiler( I got the instruction from a site).

    searching for that perl with windows installer that ppm and compiler was inbuilt is just it is hassle free for someone like me who does not know about perl, compiler, etc...

    before I find the windows installer, I had the binarie of perl, I read the installation instruction but I could not follow to install it, that's why I am looking for packages that make installation easy and hassle free, even it has been lots of hasle for up to now.

    if someone can point me to a site on how to install crypt-ssleay i am very greatfull, I believe there is problem with compiler, otherwise ther crypt-ssleay would be installed easily.

    thanks

    why don't you try like it shows on the winninpeg site:

    C:\>ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/Crypt-SSLeay.ppd

    which seems to work for me although I did not complete the installation as I have no use for the module.
