    Helvetica Neue

    I am designing a site and am looking for this font as the organisation seem to require it in their documents. I have looked on my XP Pro system and can't find it!

    Is this a common font?

    Is it a good one for websites?

    Where can I get it open source?

    Thanks

    Helvetica is an Adobe proprietary font and is installed on the Mac os, not the PC. You can't get it open source. It's fine for websites if your users have it on their hard drives, but you need to give most users an option as to font for web browsing. Be sure to use the generic in your css as well as mentioning specific fonts. The generic font for those in the Helvetica font family is sans-serif.

    It's not a free font:
    http://www.linotype.com/1266/neuehelvetica-family.html
    http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/P/P_059.html
    http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/linotype/neue-helvetica/
    So you won't find it as an open source anywhere.

    If you plan using it on a web site, just use Helvetica - for body text, headings, etc. it won't make any difference.
    Remember to define the generic font family, as not all users have Helvetica installed (you can also add secondary font definition - Arial for example).

    I use this on one of my sites. It looks slightly worse in Windows using Arial than it does on my Mac, but I think I'm the only one that notices anyway.
    Code:
    body {
      font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
    }
