No real need for a new version as yet... They have to flog each version for as long as they can...

    Jeremy...

v6 came out more than a year ago. Given the fact that Illustrator 10 just came out, Photoshop 7 will definitely be the next release. I would say that it would be here by the fall.

Got a suggestion for v7? Post it in the Adobe PS forums:

I would be very surprised to see it in the next year considering we haven't even seen the standard "massive adobe polls" or beta testing schedules yet.

Of course it's possible, but the release time between v5 and v6 was quite large, and most of the problems with 6 are implementation problems... They may therefore release a 6.5 or something this fall, but I doubt we'll be seeing a v7 anytime soon

Well, have I got a surprise for YOU

apparantly there is quite a few 'secret' bits a pieces going on...

    Quite an interesting read

O_o wow, Photoshop 7 betas are already floating around on Carracho. Kinda sad that people abuse being a beta tester like that.
There was a screenshot floating around, but i cant find it

    Exciting stuff, eh?

    yeah, you'd better

Okay, it seems like we've got some beta testers... So, it may be possible for this fall, I guess we'll see. Personally, many folk are still running 5.5 so this seems really premature, but at the same time 6 was fubbed in so many ways so hopefully this will fix most of those without throwing us another huge curveball on the interface.

What I'm seeing seems to indicate v7 is for Mac OSX only... I'm sure we'll see other versions floating around, but this seems to be the crux right now, some nice features though

I've found the file, but our Mac system is running OS7, not OSX (I think it's 7).

ANyways, we can't upgrade cause we're running AVID and it would mess everything up.

Here's the translation of that french page:

"At the beginning of the week a fully working Beta version of Photoshop for Mac OS X escaped from Adobe's tight net.

The surprise is awesome. We go from the totally unknown to a nearly fully working program ! We could expect Adobe to announe it at the MacWorld Expo (beginning of January) and to release it few months later. This Beta version which includes ImageReady 7.0 is behaving admirably.

The carbonization 'I am not sure of this term) doesn't justify itself the update to a 7.0 version. We can find some other ameliorations and new functionalities like a very practical new file browser.

The browser looks like a big window. It is possible to act directly on the pictures (s (flip them, change their name in mass, etc.), and of course to open them in Photoshop.

About the windows, it is possible to combine them as we want as well as to part them. We can see in the 7.0 version the apparition of the "Palette Well", some sort of a mini-Dock in the upper part of the screen and where we can stock the different windows we are working with. Just their name is displayed but a simple click will reveals their content. It is very practical.. The file browser is set there y default and it appears it fits very well !

Another very practical tool to appear is the "Healing Brush". she works as the clone stamp tool brush and allows to clone an area in your image but it is more "intelligent". It will adapt automatically in order to make our cloned area better integrated in the target area. Then it is very easy to make some effect like the one shown above (the one with a zebra with many ears) with simple clicks.

Like the ones in Illustrator, the different icons have been entirely redesigned. A slight roll-over when cursor is over the tool window adds some cool feelings !

Despite the fact that the program is a Beta, Photoshop works fast and it seems that a great work of optimization has already been done. As we could expect, it is a bit slower under Mac OS X than under Classic but applications that can pretend the contrary are not so many. Even that these differences are very slight and that Photoshop is fully usable on a modest G3.

Few more months of patience will be necessary but we already know that Adobe has done a great work and that the company is preparing a small wonder !"

That UK graphics magazine (I think it's Compute Arts), has a PS special mag in October / November whwre they talked to the Adobe people developing the new PS. They are keeping many of the features hush-hush, but have some of the general things that should be in it listed.

If I can find my issue, I'll post some of it.

Holy Moly, now this is a nice surprise to read when I turn on my computer. I would never expect Adobe Photoshop 7 to be released in 2002, this looks there's hope. Although I am quite happy with 6.0..hmm, truelly looking forward to this.

    Thanks for the heads-up

Found the mag, it was Computer Arts, but it was more of a hypothosys on what would be added into 7. The consensus was more vector abilities, some pallette refinement, and maybe a filter pallette.

They also said expected release is early 2002.

Time to start saving the pennies.

    Oooh...

a Filter palette would be pretty cool. I would love to have a scripting palette. SOmething that would allow me to edit (maybe in raw text format) an action. It would be nice to create one then simply edit the values to create variations on that filter.

I agree, scripting would rock. The ability to do step and repeats, check user input, do random stuff, etc would rock.
