Gallery: 1 photo per page good for SEs?

    Hi folks,

I'm currently building a travel blog community with the possibility to upload photos.

I'm not sure if I should use a nice little AJAX tool to open a larger version of a photo or if I should do it the old fashioned way of having the large version of a picture loading on a seperate html page.

I know that with more html pages in total, it's more likely to be found for the specific keywords.

On the otherside is a page that just displays a photo and (apart from the title of the photo) no other real content, no really that beneficial for search engines anyway.

But at least it would build up the amount of pages pretty quickly.

What do you guys recommend? What is best in a SEO point of view?

This is a case where I would say SEO doesn't mater. This feature is all about user experience. Do whatever gives them the best user experience. That's the best SEO you can do as the better their experience the more likely they are to link to it.

Thats exactly what I thought. But then I look at the big ones like

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/ or www.realtravel.com

They all create a single page for each photo.

    mmh...

They might not even be considering SEO. They may just think that will create the best user experience. If you think you can create a better user experience doing it differently go for it.

ok thanks! but i think those 2 big ones i mentioned are doing nothing else BUT seo. look at the way the structure the page and use keywords, highlighting and link texts....

thanks for your opinion though. I'd appreciate other points of view :-)

    I'd go 100% with stymiee...

The minimal difference that this option will make with on-page SEO is totally outweighed by if people get on with your site, they will link to you - one of the most valuable SEO benefits you can get. Focus on your user experience here. It may well be that they researched and found that users prefer 1 photo per page.
