    RSS newbie

Hello...I'm behind the times I know but am looking to publish an RSS feed on my site and had a couple of questions.

    • Should I use RSS 1.x or 2.x? Is there any benefit/drawback to using either format?
    • Is it best to use a service like Feedburner to monitor subscriptions?
    • Any recommended reading on the subject - how to get started?

    Many thanks!!

++Feedburner. It is a great service, and is free.

i second feedburner - GREAT service, you can monitor your subscriptions and they provide all the chicklets to make subscribing to an RSS feed less painful - and they work together with feedblitz for an RSS generated doublt opt in email newsletter subscription.

You can also enable the option in FeedBurner to automatically serve the feed in whatever format the requesting reader prefers. It'll convert whatever you have to RSS 1 / 2 / Atom depending on the user-agent of the reader. They definitely have the best feed management tool out there right now.

Why don't you use it on your blog?

I'm new and didn't understand any of it. Can someone recommend to this newbie a place or book to get up to speed on EVERYTHING RSS. Does SitePoint have any material on this?
