What are the main principles?

Hey all,

What are the main principles one should remember when starting his very new website?

With principles, i mean that what tags should we use? "<strong> or <b>" "<h1> or <h2".... and other. I am n00b to SEO, and i need help because i will be launching my new site very soon.

All of those tags are useful, but you need to show restraint when using them to rank for keywords. The quantity and uniqueness of your content is what the search engines will really reward.
