Interesting. It just sounds so illogical to me, but then most things like that are, it's just that I'm not accustomed to this one.
And I can't stand the shark fin soup thing, or all the trashy medical techniques the Chinese seem to love, which just so happen to involve endangered species or horrible cruelty to animals.

See this link. I probably wouldn't have used that idiom in the context used above but it's a valid idiom. Means something goes beyond the expected boundaries.
Guess an example would be if someone says to you, "Did you read 50 pages of that book?" and you say "yes, and then some; i read 75"
