Oofawhungus. I think that's the word I'm looking for. That thing on the Ricolla commercial looks something awful-- take it from a guy who used to play the french horn. It probably plays like a bugle in terms of ombature...!

Making databesless anything that involves data makes no sense. People are either trying to simplify things or to try out freshly learned technologies (XML) just for the sake of using it. Unfortunately that gives no benefit at all.
Databases are designed to store and manage data. Using primitive technologies like flat files is nothing but a major slow down. Using XML as a database substitute is plain silly; XML is not a database substitute. If you can use a database, use it.

kigoobe, initially it was just for a small project and I only needed to quickly display some pictures in a directory nicely, using file and dir names and exif data as much as possible, for which a database of any sort isn't necessary. Then I started to add captions and other metadata and since I didn't know MySQL I just put it all in text files as a temporary solution (because I've been intending to learn MySQL for some time now but never got round to it). But php_daemon is absolutely right, not using a database to store data is stupid.
False, I'm the king of technological advances. In fact, there's a conspiracy theory that I've created all of them.
