Have you taken a look at their documentation?

What PHP verion do you have installed? What Mysql version do you have installed? And what phpmyadmin version are you installing?

just to clarify, mysqlo is a typo right? You mean mysql?

First install and verify PHP and mySQL are installed and configured.
Then extract and upload the phpmyadmin package * usually want to password protect the directory, etc. for security *
Read phpmyadmin's documentation about different security measures and choose one you like.
Create a mysql account for phpmyadmin and config phpmyadmin accordingly

    You should be done.
    MySQL v5.1.58
    PHP v5.3.6

Yes, thats a typo (my bad).
Take a look at this script I put on my server to see if I could use a forum.

Should I upgrade both PHP/mysql first do ya think?
(so I will have the latest versions of everything?)

you are still on supported versions of php and mysql. upgrading is not a bad idea, but i wouldn't do it blindly. testing is required.

i'm a big fan of not making too many changes too quickly. since you already have known-good installations of php and mysql, install phpmyadmin as-is.

commence testing of php and mysql on another server or in parallel installations.

you really should be following the directions that come with phpmyadmin. they've recently made changes to the way they ship the configuration files so most tutorials you find will be out of date.
