    Meta Search Engines - Legal?

    Is running a meta search engine legal? I mean is it OK with search engines if we parse thier serps?

    Read the TOS, but generally no.

    Do it enough and they'll just ban your IP.

    They get their data from second tier search engines that alllow them to do it or they don't have enough traffic to use up their 1000 API calls to Google per day.

    mamma.com, dogpile.com and info.com are metasearch engines .. i think they have enough volume to use up 1000 API queries.

    IF they use google, which they may or may not, then they most likely pay to use the API.

    You don't think that Google is going to allow their competitors to use their database for free do you?

    Thats the thing which was confusing me. Well, so result is that meta search engines with good volume pay for API?

    As sure as anyone else who has answered in this thread lol

    I'm not in that business so I'm not sure, but it would be common sense that they do. Or at least that you would have to if you wanted to ensure that you didn't get cut off one day without warning.

    I have encountered a number of attempts at this sort of thing that later failed because they were blocked.
