    How does a URL rewriting helps in seo

    if the link is www.a.com/view.aspx?id=12

    and the rewrite url is www.a.com/view12.aspx

    That won't help you any unless you want to rank well for 'view12'. The goal of mod_rewrite, amongst other things, is to help you get keywords into your URLs.

    I would take the second URL over the first any day, merely because "id" variables have caused indexing problems in the past. But yeah, John is right, try to get a keyword in there if possible.

    No. But if you are just stuffing them in there users will think it is spammy and you'll get links as a result.
