Need help with some structural issues

I'm building a site for my father (http://www.haarball.com), and have built it from scratch. I'm still in the process of designing it and implementing it into Wordpress, but my knowledge on positioning in CSS isn't quite sufficient yet.

For example, the container won't wrap itself around the content. I thought positioning the elements within it would solve this, but apparently not. Also, is the general use of positioning on the site decent? When I tried to put comments beneath the post on the article page the sidebar was pushed beneath it, even though I assigned "clear:both".

Sorry if this is too much to ask, but it's hard to get this kind of advice quickly in articles (the site's a Christmas gift, you see).

There's a lot of redundant CSS, but that's because this design is modified from another, and I haven't yet cleaned it up.

    Thanks!

You need to fix your link. This is the message - "Firefox can't find the server at www.haarball.com"

The first mistake you have is that your document has no opening <body> tag. Fix that one and see what other problems you still have.

Christ, of course. I didn't even think about that.

The container sorted itself out. Anything else you see as far as positioning goes that I should change?

The footer's outside the container for some reason. Know why?

Paul O'B has shown how to create footers for several types of layouts in this thread: http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/show...66&postcount=3
