    Beginner - where to start?

I need to produce (what I hope will be) a fairly basic data driven site. In the last month or so I've read the SitePoint book 'Build Your Own web site the right way using HTML & CSS' and have gone from having produced a couple of basic sites using GoLive 6's layout interface, to producing a site just by using the code interface and strict xhtml and css.

I had been planning to use the book Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP and MySQL but eventually decided to go with ColdFusion instead. There seemed to be a unanimous concencus that the ColdFusion Web application construction kit was the best (and probably only) book needed to learn ColdFusion.

However, when I received the book I was a bit surprised to find that it's massive, and not exactly the sort of thing that will be quick to read from cover to cover.

Therefore my question is - what's the best way to get started? Are there certain key chapters I should read, or is it necessary to read the whole thing? My reason for choosing ColdFusion was that it's the easiest for non-programmers to pick up, yet reading this entire book (not counting the Advanced companion book) doesn't sound easy.

I do also have the MySQL crash course book which should give me a good background in the database side of things.
