where do you find programmers
Ahoy, I am wondering where everyone goes to look for good programmers? What are the sites/forums/techniques you use to find people that you can develop long lasting working relationships with?
thanks,
Will

Forums like this one. Although SitePoint isn't your typical rent a coder place. Here you can watch people and read through their posts. If you see someone you are impressed in, just contact them.

sounds good, kindof along the lines of how I had found people int he past. I think there is a defenite lack of places online to find good PEOPLE. not just a quick jobs from rent a programmer or such, i dont care about that. I want to find people I can trust and work with. Havn't found that place yet ^_^.

Forums let you know other members before you decide to hire someone. You can read past posts of your potential partner/employer/subcontractor, learn what kind of person he/she is.
And freelance sites - all of them have various rating systems allowing the buyer to make his decision. You post your project, get offers, providers show you their portfolios and you select one of them.█ FreelanceDaddy - freelancer's personal advisor

Our company needed a totally customized CMS. We found a great team of programmers on RentACoder.com. The key word here is TEAM. As it has been already mentioned here numerous times (in various threads) not everyone can be great at everything. I, myself, am our companies' graphic designer (at least that's one of the many hats I wear). But I couldn't code a whole CMS to save my life. RAC helped us find the other side to help create our CMS in time of a very strict deadline. It actually took me a full week to find the programming team I was looking for.
I agree with what has been said already in that finding someone on a forum (in watching them a little) is great way to see if they seem to know their stuff. I'm just giving you another alternative POV that one can find the answer through a freelance site too, and I also encourage you to find a group who has plenty of experience. RAC provides this info on their site. This team of coders has done more than the 1 project that we hired them for sinec August, as my trust in them has strengthened through their proven experience with us.
Good luck in finding your solution.

We sell our services and buy outsourced support for development/design at www.getafreelancer.com . It has very nice features and tracking system for reading reviews about buyers/sellers , plus escrow service for safety.
