    Smile Problem with Dynamic Menu

    I've been handed an assignment from a previous osc developer. I get a hold of the code and it's a mess. I thought it would be a minor job but the designer hardcoded everything in the front page and I'm having a horrible time making sense of it.

    Could someone please take a look at the following page:

    and tell me why this "works" in Internet Explorer and not in Firefox. It brings an error in Internet Explorer too but the full page still loads.

    The original code is an osc contribution which normally wouldn't be a problem to remove or add but like I said it seems the code was modified and hardcoded in the front page and I don't know enough about JavaScript to tell immediately what is wrong. The categories don't even load or that is to say once a user selects something from the dynamic menu it doesn't direct them to the product page. This is just one part of a 5 part project and I'd be willing to work with an Expert for a share of this project amount.

    Normally I would post to an OSC forum but it's deviating so much from the structure that I feel I need a Javascript Expert.

    The main problem is the dropdown menu in the right "Online Store".

    Just viewed the link in Firefox ... I have the Firebug extension installed and the page generated 466 errors (quite impressive ) ... admittedly most of them maybe be knock on errors You have errors in the style sheets and the JavaScript. I recommend that you install the extension to give yourself a fighting chance of solving the problem.

    Hi,

    The main problem seems that the function fadeshow is undefined? It's declared after it's being used. I suggest extracting all the javascript from the file and placing it in an external one.

    Thanks Scott. There are more errors here than I could have imagined. I don't know if I should bother keeping this page but I'll try your suggestion and hopefully it will work. I'll post after I've tested.

    Unfortunately, this site is too far gone. I'm going to have to start from scratch and reinstall osc. When asked to fix a "few" errors I should have taken a more in depth look at the code.

    Almost Working But Not Quite

    Hello Again!

    I managed to resolve the issue by switching javascript programs. Okay it works exactly as expected in firefox but in ie it's not. The submenu is on the right and it shouldn't be. The menu is supposed to go to the left

    I've attached the javascript and the stylesheet. Because also in IE the form shown beneath the activated submenu shows through (at least the country field)

    Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

    Just had a quick look and I'm not seeing a problem ... have you fixed it? ... I only just picked up your post. I'm still seeing a number of errors on the page though?

    Ok, now I've that I've looked properly I see the problem.

    I'll have a look at the code but it's going to be a couple of days until I can give it my full attention. If you can't wait, then post the problem in the Stylesheets / CSS forum ... its going to be a CSS/Browser issue. I'd fix those errors in the CSS first though

    Thanks Scott. Yeah, I think now it is a CSS issue so now I'm working on that. I can't tell you how much I'm ready to just get this thing done.

    The main Javascript problem (or at least I think that's what it is) is that instead of the submenu opening to the left it opens at the right. I used http://phplayersmenu.sourceforge.net
